Joe Biden, with this new orange spray tan, blatantly lied about the presidential immunity ruling from the Supreme Court today.
He also chastised the court for not making a judgement on Trump’s behavior on January 6th. But the case was about presidential immunity, not about the substance of Trump’s actions.
Here’s the video:
Biden claimed that the Supreme Court today ruled that the president has absolute power or something. But that’s completely absurd. Even more so, it’s a bald-faced lie.
The Supreme Court said a president has immunity when doing official acts, meaning he has immunity when he’s exercising his constitutionally-granted authority. It doesn’t mean a president can do whatever he wants.
It’s like Bill Barr said today on Fox News:
“There’s absolute immunity when he’s acting directly under the constitution, carrying out a function under the constitution. There’s presumptive immunity when he performs an official act…”
“He has the right to go and tell the Department of Justice to investigate something. But an example used by Justice Sotomayor was, ‘oh, then he can fabricate evidence, give the evidence to the department and use that evidence to indict them.’ He doesn’t have authority to fabricate evidence. That’s not carrying out an executive function.
And the worst example, I think — the one that makes no sense whatsoever is that he can use SEAL Teams 6 to kill a political opponent. The president has the authority to defend the country against foreign enemies — armed conflict and so forth. He has the authority to direct the justice system against criminals at home. He doesn’t have the authority to go and assassinate people.”
Joe Biden is lying just like Sotomayor. But who in the media is going to hold him accountable? I guess it will have to be the voters in November.
