Governor DeSantis was asked today if he believes the 2020 election was stolen.
Here’s his full response:
Here’s what DeSantis said:
“I’ve said many times the election is what it is. All those theories that were put out did not prove to be true. But what I’ve also said is the way you conduct a good election that people have confidence in – you don’t change the rules in the middle of the game. You don’t ballot harvest. You don’t do Zuckerbucks. And clearly having the agencies work with Facebook to censor things like Hunter Biden, that’s unfair. So it was not an election that was conducted the way I think we want to, but that’s different than saying like Maduro stole votes or something like that. And I think those theories proved to be unsubstantiated.
“In Florida, we banned Zuckerbucks. We banned ballot harvesting. We have a transparent process where you know the votes are coming in. When the election is over at 7 o’clock at night, you know how many votes have been cast. The results are produced.
“I think a lot of people were frustrated because in 2020 and we’ve seen in 2022, you’d have votes cast, you’d have results come up, tentative results, and then a week later it would change. In California it’s like multiple weeks where that would happen. That does not inspire confidence. So we need to do it the way Florida does it.
“But here’s the thing. As the candidate, I am not going to fight with one hand behind my back. If there is ballot harvesting, we are going to harvest if it’s allowed. I don’t think it should be but in Nevada and these places, we’re going to get after it. We’re going to have organizations that get every vote. If you have Zuckerbucks that’s allowed – I think it’s totally corrupt to allow it. It should be banned. But it’s not banned in every place and so if it’s not, we’re going to get after it. And we will absolutely, as president, ensure that you do not have federal agencies colluding with social media companies to stifle information like they did with the Hunter Biden laptop.
“So let’s be honest about the failings that happened and let’s make sure we correct that going forward like we did in Florida.”
You can be sure that DeSantis isn’t going to be drawn into a debate about the 2020 election being stolen. He’s been clear from the beginning that he’s not interested in relitigating issues like that. Rather, he wants to fix the corruptions that we know about for future elections. That is very clear from his answer.
