NextImg:WATCH – CNN airs five minute segment proving Trump voters BETTER understand this country than does CNN

CNN ran a five minute segment this morning from one of their hack reporters, Donie O’Sullivan, trying to embarass and shame Trump voters.

The central question from this reporter that he put to people at a Trump rally was “Is America a democracy” and the answer he always got was “America is not a democracy, it’s a republic.”

O’Sullivan sought to dispel this claim and interviewed some leftist named Anne Applebaum who claimed there is no meaningful difference between ‘democracy’ and ‘republic’.

Her conspiracy theory is that Trump’s people have been planting this narrative because “if they can convince people that we don’t have a democracy then it’s okay that Trump is attacking democracy because it doesn’t really matter.”

But what this video proves more than anything is that Trump supporters are better educated on what this country because they are exactly right, we are a republic.

It’s really better stated that we are not a “direct democracy” because the founders didn’t want a direct democracy. They found that countries who used direct democracies were prone to the fanaticism of the majority. Instead the founders created this form of government called a ‘representative democracy’, which at its most basic level is an attempt to balance power across all voters and not just a majority. The electoral college is a perfect example of this, giving all states a say in presidential elections rather than being subject to the whims of populous states like New York and California in a direct democracy.

Another example that was done away with long ago was the framers’ intent for the US Senate, which used to be only for the states. Each state’s legislators would elect two people to represent them in the Senate. You had the House to represent the people and the Senate to represent the states, balancing power both directly and indirectly from the people in both houses. But the 17th amendment ended that and subjected the direct election of Senators to the whims of the people in each state. I’m telling you, this country would be a much better place if the Senate was still as the framers created it.

The bottom line is that while we are a form of democracy, we are very different from a direct democracy. We are a constitutional republic and Trump supporters know this very well. CNN’s attempt to shame and embarrass them just shows how stupid and biased they truly are and don’t deserve to be called a news organization.
