NextImg:[VIDEO] – Protests and riots break out after Marine Le Pen’s right-wing party WINS first round of elections in France – The Right Scoop

The left is never happy when the right wins anything, whether here in the US or abroad in countries like France.

Today, Marine Le Pen’s right-wing party, National Rally (RN), just won the first round of parliamentary elections in France by 6 points. Should they decisively win next Sunday’s second round, they could end up with an absolute majority in the country’s National Assembly.

Macron’s party came in a humiliating last place finish today after he’s the one who called for these snap elections. Ensemble came in 8 points behind the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) coalition.

According to CNN: “After unusually high turnout, the RN bloc leads with 34% of the vote, while left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) coalition is in second with 28.1% and President Emmanuel Macron’s Ensemble alliance slumped to a dismal third with 20.3%, according to initial estimates by Ipsos.”

The National Rally, among other things, does not support the open-ended immigration system that France and Europe has seen over the last two decades. With the ever-increasing number of Muslim migrants from Africa flooding Europe, you can understand why National Rally is suddenly winning.

Because National Rally won today, leftist have taken to the streets to protest and riot.

Here’s more on this election from Politico:

Voters have spoken in the first round of the crucial French legislative election, paving the way for a tense, uncertain week of campaigning before the runoff next Sunday.

Projections based on exit polls show an absolute majority is within reach for Marine Le Pen’s National Rally. That would force Emmanuel Macron, the French president, into appointing the first democratically elected far-right government in France’s modern history.

But as Le Pen put it Sunday, “nothing is won” for her party.

Who will compete in the second round remains unclear. It will depend on how each party acts in the face of a possible far-right win, leaving key political players with burning headaches in the days before the final round.

I’m not going to pretend to understand France’s byzantine system. But the bottom line is this from CNN, which I think we can all understand:

While the RN appears on track to win the most seats in the National Assembly, it may fall short of the 289 seats required for an absolute majority, suggesting France may be heading for a hung parliament and more political uncertainty.

Projections show that, after the second round of voting next Sunday, the RN would win between 230 and 280 seats in the 577-seat lower house – a staggering rise from its count of 88 in the outgoing parliament. The NFP was projected to secure between 125 and 165 seats, with Ensemble trailing with between 70 and 100 seats.

The election, which Macron called after his party was battered by the RN in European Parliament elections earlier this month, could leave him to see out the remaining three years of his presidential term in an awkward partnership with a prime minister from an opposition party.

Just like in Israel, whoever controls the legislature selects the Prime Minister. And right now that looks like it could be the National Rally.
