Ken Cuccinelli went after Governor Greg Abbott today for ‘spewing garbage’ on Fox News about the border. Specifically, he said Abbott is ‘not being accurate’ when he says he’s ‘repelling’ illegals from coming across the border.

First, here’s what Abbott said on Fox News:

Cuccinelli responded saying “I’m sorry to say, but my friend Greg Abbott is not … ummm… ‘being accurate’ here… He is NOT “repelling” illegal crossings, despite having the constitutional authority to do so. C’mon @FoxNews, letting him spew this garbage unchallenged is an embarrassment.”

Cuccinelli appears to be be frustrated and I get why. Abbott makes it sound like he’s securing the border when only the federal government can do that.

I don’t know what Abbott said before and after this, but the only border he can control is the one on Texas land and I imagine that’s what he’s talking about.

I believe what Cuccinelli wants Abbott to do is what the former Governor of Arizona did during the Obama years when she tried to secure the southern border and got slapped down by the Supreme Court. This is a different Supreme Court now and they might look at the issue differently. But if Abbott doesn’t try and take operational control of the southern border, we’ll never know.
