The Biden campaign raised twice as much as the Trump campaign in the second quarter of this year:
According to the news, Biden raised $72m over a 67-day period whereas Trump only raised $35 million Trump raised:
The Biden-Harris campaign on Friday announced that it had pulled in more than $72m over the 67-day period running from 25 April, when Mr Biden formally declared his candidacy for re-election, to the end of June.
The campaign also reported that it currently has $77m in cash on hand, which it said is a larger war chest than any Democratic presidential candidate has had at this point in an election cycle in history.
The $72m brought in by the president’s re-election campaign is more than double the $35m raised by former president Donald Trump’s campaign during full 90-day period running from 1 April to 30 June, and more than triple the $25m which Mr Trump’s closest primary rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, raised during the second quarter.
They mention Biden raised over triple what DeSantis raised, but what they don’t tell you is that DeSantis didn’t start raising money until he launched his campaign during the end of May. When DeSantis announced his fundraising haul last week, it was over a six-week period.
After making these claims, the telegraph then says:
“The campaign said the $72m represented funds raised between the actual campaign committee, the Democratic National Committee, and the joint fundraising committees established by Mr Biden’s campaign and the DNC…”
So it’s not just the Biden campaign. It’s also the DNC and whatever these fundraising committees are. If we’re going to talk about joint fundraising, DeSantis and his super PAC raised $150 million, which blows what Biden raised out of the water. For context, the Never Back Down super PAC has been raising money since March, a month earlier than Biden. But even so it’s still A LOT more than Biden raised.
For added context, Trump’s 35 million was the total from a joint fundraiser with his Super PAC Save America. So the article is correct when it says Biden raised over twice what Trump raised.
But the news gets worse. Biden’s joint fundraising dollars with the DNC “included 670,000 donations by more than 394,000 donors across all 50 states, 97 percent of whom gave less than $200.” That’s a lot of small dollar donations. Meaning, Republicans should not underestimate Biden in this election because he’s clearly got a lot of financial support.
Pedro Gonzalez says “I think Republicans are getting high on their own supply again, like before the 2022 midterms, and underestimating Biden for 2024, certainly the Democratic Party.”
