Rep. Michael Guest from Mississippi, who is also the chair of the House Ethics Committee, has filed a resolution to expel George Santos after the Ethics Committee report came out yesterday.
Guest has issued a statement on his move to do this:
He’s essentially saying that because the Ethics Committee decided to forgo a lengthier process to recommend punishment for Santos, he’s doing it himself separate from the committee.
It’s apparently a privileged motion but won’t be handled until after Thanksgiving, according to Jake Sherman: “He’s introducing it and placing in the hopper. He’s not noticing it as privileged. So the block — two legislative days to bring it up — doesn’t start until someone notices it as privileged. Someone will do that when Congress returns after thanksgiving.”
