Both Maria Bartiromo and Tom Homan this morning accused Governor DeSantis of copying Trump yesterday with his plans to stop illegal immigration and finally get control of the southern border.

Here’s what doesn’t make sense about their ‘copycat’ arguments. If Trump was so successful at securing the border, then why has there been such chaos at the border under Biden?

After illegal crossings went through the roof in 2019, Trump did secure the border through agreements with Mexico and other countries later that year. But he had to do this because the wall was never completed. Trump did build the wall in some areas along the border, but was never able to even come close to finishing it.

Because Trump had to secure the border through agreements, Biden was able to easily undo all of this and open it back up again. Which means that Trump was ultimately not successful at securing the border with any permanence.

It is utter nonsense for Bartiromo and Homan to claim that DeSantis is simply copying what Trump already did. If he Trump did it so well, it wouldn’t still need doing.
