Last year we started hearing that the Biden administration was considering a ban on gas stoves. They dropped that idea for now, but the Democrat attack on gas stoves didn’t die with them.
The state of New York has just passed a ban on gas stoves and other gas-fed appliances in new buildings and homes because climate change.
Here’s more from the WSJ:
New York is set to become the first state in the U.S. to ban gas stoves in new residential buildings.
The Democratic-controlled state Legislature passed legislation late Tuesday that prohibits natural-gas and other fossil-fuel hookups in new buildings. Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, is expected to approve the measure, which was included in the state’s budget.
The measure aims to help the state meet targets for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. It would prohibit other gas-powered appliances such as water heaters, furnaces and clothes dryers in new residential buildings, in addition to banning gas stoves in new homes.
The measure would go into effect in 2026 for some buildings and will cover more structures in 2029.
Here’s how Kathy Hochul defended the decision:
There is nothing wrong with natural gas! But this isn’t really about natural gas, it’s about forcing people to ‘transition’ to green energy. What’s really going to happen is that they are going to force people to LEAVE.
I’m not much of a chef but I know that people LOVE their gas stoves. When you stack this ban on top of the many other issues in New York, especially crime and taxes, I think people who can afford to move will consider leaving the Empire State for good. Some already have and this will just push more people out.
