The desperate North Carolina governor, who was pleading with Republicans to find at least one who would side with him on his veto of the new pro-life law in the state banning abortions after 12 weeks, has now lost the fight.
Late last night Republicans in the state successfully overrode his veto and the new pro-life bill will now become law:
NEWSMAX – Legislation banning most abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy will become law in North Carolina after the state’s Republican-controlled General Assembly successfully overrode the Democrat governor’s veto late Tuesday.
The House completed the second and final part of the override vote Tuesday night after a similar three-fifths majority voted for the override earlier Tuesday in the Senate. The outcome represents a major victory for Republican legislative leaders who needed every GOP member on board to enact the law over Gov. Roy Cooper’s opposition.
Cooper vetoed the measure over the weekend after spending last week traveling around the state to convince at least one Republican to uphold his expected veto.
As I suggested before, this bill isn’t perfect by any means. But it’s a big step in the right direction and will save lives.
Protecting pro-life doctors and nurses from participating in abortion procedures is a wonderful thing. And requiring in-person examinations by doctors before prescribing abortion meds means the abortion-by-mail atrocity is dead in this state.
More needs to be done to end abortion in the state and hopefully we’ll get there in the near future.
