NextImg:JUST IN: French President Macron comes out against Israel

French President Emmanuel Macron came out against Israel today, accusing Israel of killing civilians and calling for a ceasefire.

Here’s what he said, via Reuters reporter Idrees Ali:

In the larger BBC interview, Macron condemns Hamas and claims he supports Israel’s right to defend itself. But he also say he hopes other leaders will join him in pressuring Israel to issue a ceasefire in Gaza:

Israel must stop killing babies and women in Gaza, French President Emmanuel Macron has told the BBC.

In an exclusive interview at the Élysée Palace, he said there was “no justification” for the bombing, saying a ceasefire would benefit Israel.

While recognising Israel’s right to protect itself, “we do urge them to stop this bombing” in Gaza, he said.

But he also stressed that France “clearly condemns” the “terrorist” actions of Hamas.

France – like Israel, the US, the UK, and other Western nations – considers Hamas a terrorist organisation.

When asked if he wanted other leaders – including in the US and the UK – to join his calls for a ceasefire, he replied: “I hope they will.”

“De facto – today, civilians are bombed – de facto. These babies, these ladies, these old people are bombed and killed. So there is no reason for that and no legitimacy. So we do urge Israel to stop.”

He said it was not his role to judge whether international law had been broken.

Netanyahu has already responded to Macron’s comments, rejecting them out of hand:

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded quickly to Mr Macron’s comments, saying nations should condemn Hamas, not Israel.

“While Israel is doing everything to refrain from harming civilians and calling on them to leave areas of fighting, Hamas-ISIS is doing everything to prevent them from leaving for safe areas and is using them as human shields,” a statement from Mr Netanyahu’s office read.

“The crimes being committed today by Hamas-ISIS in Gaza will be committed tomorrow in Paris, New York and all over the world,” he said.

Macron is clearly falling for the Palestinian lies about what’s going on in Gaza. Heck, I’m sure they are lying about the death toll and inflating it with the number of Hamas that Israel is annihilating. Macron must not be a very smart man if he can’t see what’s truly happening.
