NextImg:Hunter Biden demands ‘legitimate’ subpoena and he’ll give deposition to Congress…

Hunter Biden has just agreed to sit before the House Oversight committee for a deposition after the committee passed contempt of Congress this week.

But he wants a new and ‘legitimate’ subpoena before he’ll grace the Oversight committee with his presence.

Here’s more from the NY Post:

Hunter Biden caved Friday and agreed to sit for a deposition in the House impeachment inquiry into his father — moving to avoid a vote as soon as next week to hold him in contempt of Congress.

Hunter, 53, waved a white flag in a letter to Congress from his attorney Abbe Lowell.

“If you issue a new proper subpoena, now that there is a duly authorized impeachment inquiry, Mr. Biden will comply for a hearing or deposition. We will accept such a subpoena on Mr. Biden’s behalf,” Lowell wrote.

The House Judiciary and Oversight committees voted separately Wednesday to hold Hunter in contempt — after the first son crashed the Oversight hearing, infuriating Republicans after he ducked his scheduled Dec. 13 interview.

Contempt of Congress is punishable by a minimum of 30 days behind bars, though a decision to prosecute would be made by President Biden’s Justice Department appointees if the full House clears the sanction.

It was not immediately clear Friday whether Republicans will shelve the contempt legislation.

Lowell’s letter reflects a significant shift in Hunter Biden’s posture after the high-priced lawyer and other Democrats previously claimed Hunter couldn’t sit for a deposition because he preferred to testify publicly.

I don’t buy this for a second. Maybe I’m wrong, but what I think is really going on is that Joe Biden perceives his blatant hypocrisy in prosecuting Republicans for contempt of congress but not his own son, and that this could be a campaign issue at some point. He’s already under the weight of terrible poll numbers because of his terrible economy, the overrun border and his age. I think he wants to avert any more problems from weighing him down. So he gets his criminal son to agree to a deposition – but only if he can get a new ‘legitimate’ subpoena in order to make it seem as if the last one wasn’t legitimate.

If Republicans fall for it and issue a new subpoena, Hunter comes in and pleads the fifth on everything (like Lois Lerner) and that gets daddy Joe off the hook. If Republicans don’t issue a new subpoena, Joe can just claim his son agreed to give a deposition but that the first subpoena wasn’t legitimate because of no impeachment inquiry, and that also gives him a way to dismiss it.

With all the games Hunter Biden has played with Republicans, I just don’t see him ‘caving’ on this at all. I think it’s a strategy to help his dad.
