Jim Acosta reportedly threatened to quit CNN after they demoted him from his 10am morning show to a 12-2am time slot.
They remember his past clashes with Donald Trump and are concerned about more anti-Trump theatrics, so they dumped him into a graveyard shift.
Here’s more via the Daily Mail:
CNN anchor Jim Acosta is reportedly considering quitting the broadcaster after being demoted from his prized 10 am show and threatened with banishment to the ‘Siberia’ of broadcasting.
On Thursday, rumors that Acosta has lost his morning show were confirmed by CNN boss Mark Thompson as 200 layoffs in the TV division were announced.
He’ll be replaced at that time by The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown.
Acosta is in talks with CNN bosses about another as yet unconfirmed role.
‘We are in active discussions with Jim about a new time slot and will have more information to share soon,’ a network spokesman said.
But claims the anti-Trump anchor is destined for a graveyard slot at midnight are said to have him pondering his future.
The LA Times reported that Acosta may now ‘exit the network, according to people familiar with his thinking.’
Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Acosta is ‘getting hosed’ inside CNN’s offices over his ‘shocking’ demotion.
An insider suggested that accepting a midnight-to-2 am slot is his ‘only path forward’ at the network.
Acosta’s 10 am ratings are good – but his notorious past clashes with Donald Trump are said to have made network bosses nervous as Trump begins his second term as president.
His verbal sparring matches with the administration and the president himself saw him lose his press pass at one point, before CNN successfully sued for breach of constitutional rights to get it back.
However, network chiefs are said to be keen to water down the theatrics and believe moving Acosta to, ‘the Siberia of television’, is the way to do it.
I’m so glad Acosta is finally getting some comeuppance for his clashes with Trump. Dude is the worst and I hope he does quit. Although they’ll probably give him a show at MSNBC cause he’s right in line with those anti-Trump-obsessed turds.
Here’s more on the line-up changes CNN made today after laying off 200 employees:
CNN made several changes to its lineup on Thursday, including giving longtime anchor Jake Tapper a new time slot and removing Jim Acosta from his morning show. Network veteran Wolf Blitzer is also being moved from broadcasting in the evening to the mornings as part of CNN’s shake up.
Tapper’s show “The Lead” is being moved an hour later, and will now air from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. each weekday. Acosta, who has had many memorable squabbles with President Donald Trump, will no longer host “CNN Newsroom” from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. during the week.
That time will now occupied by “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown,” which will air from 10:00 a.m. to noon ET. Blitzer had been broadcasting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET each night. Kasie Hunt is also getting a new show that will air from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.
The changes do not affect Anderson Cooper, who will continue to broadcast his “Anderson Cooper 360” show at 8:00 p.m. ET. Kaitlan Collins’ show, which airs at 9:00 p.m. ET each night, is also staying in the same spot.
Rahel Solomon and Audie Cornish will each get new morning shows as part of CNN’s shakeup. Solomon will host “5 Things with Rahel Solomon” from 5:00a.m. to 6:00 a.m. ET during the week, and Cornish will host “CNN This Morning” from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m ET.
