President Trump was on the radio with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade this morning and he was asked about his recent comments on Zelensky, and it was interesting.
Essentially, President Trump doesn’t think Zelensky needs to be at the negotiations right now because he’s watched Zelensky for three years and he’s not impressed.
Trump believes Zelensky could have done a deal with Putin and ended the war before it even started, or even shortly after it began. He believes Zelensky has failed in that effort and doesn’t believe he has any cards to play now.
I know it sounds like he’s being very hard on Ukraine, who was the victim of Russia’s aggression – and he is! But he does acknowledge that Russia should have never gone into Ukraine and reiterates that it never would have happened had he been president.
Below are his full comments with Kilmeade and I’ve got it cued up to 6:23 where it begins:
I honestly believe Trump is angry at Zelensky for trying to make a big deal about him not being invited to the negotiation in Saudi Arabia, as well as him not accepting the mineral rights deal – which is CRAZY after all the money we’ve given to him.
But I also believe that President Trump’s anger at Zelensky is a tool he is using in his negotiations with Putin. He’s more diplomatic about Putin because he is the BIG BAD and Trump wants a deal with him to end the war. As I said yesterday, if Putin decided to pull his troops and walk away, the war would be over. Trump knows this, and I believe that’s why he’s being a lot softer on Putin, despite him being the aggressor in this war, to try and get him to peace.
Maybe I’m wrong. But whatever the case, President Trump is right that Ukraine really doesn’t hold any cards and that his presence at the negotiations, at least right now, is really unnecessary.
