President Trump’s Office of Management and Budget says they’ve just reviewed the CBO score of the Big, Beautiful Bill and explains why it’s wrong.

Here’s what OMB Director Russ Vought wrote:

OMB just reviewed the new CBO score of the One Big Beautiful bill. It confirms what we knew about the bill at House passage. The bill REDUCES deficits by $1.4 trillion over ten years when you adjust for CBO’s one big gimmick–not using a realistic current policy baseline. It includes $1.7 trillion in mandatory savings, the most in history. If you care about deficits and debt, this bill dramatically improves the fiscal picture.

Stephen Miller quickly jumped in as well, echoing OMB’s analysis:

It’s really amazing to me the competing claims from Republicans on this bill, with some saying it’s awesome because it really does cut spending and lower taxes, and others saying the exact opposite. It can leave one’s head spinning. ????‍????

My take on the bill is, in general, it does some really good things but it’s not great. How could it be great with all the maneuvering it took just to get the bill to pass the House. But sometimes we have to take what we can get. We did it on abortion for years until we finally got a Supreme Court who would at least send the issue back to the states, so that many could outlaw the barbaric practice.

At the rate we’re going though, with the Senate set to substantially change the bill, I just don’t see how we’re going to get anything to Trump’s desk.
