It’s being reported that President Trump is considering a big cut to his tariffs on Chinese imports in order to relieve trade tensions with China, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Here’s the report:
The Trump administration is considering slashing its steep tariffs on Chinese imports—in some cases by more than half—in a bid to de-escalate tensions with Beijing that have roiled global trade and investment, according to people familiar with the matter.
President Trump hasn’t made a final determination, the people said, adding that the discussions remain fluid and several options are on the table.
President Trump has been trying to get China to the negotiating table and I would expect that, by doing this, it will help do just that. But he also may be doing it to relieve economic concerns about prices because, there’s no doubt, we buy a lot of Chinese products.
In related news, there was a rumor floating around X yesterday about Trump meeting (or calling) Xi Jinping in May, but I couldn’t find any actual newser saying this.
