A proposed Texas congressional map was just published and it will add more Republican seats in 2026.
Here’s the map (click to enlarge):
Grok explains:
“The proposed PLANC2308 map aims to boost GOP seats by 4-5, targeting Democratic districts in Houston, Dallas, Austin, and Rio Grande Valley, potentially shifting to a 30-8 Republican edge. Likely consequences: legal challenges for racial gerrymandering under the Voting Rights Act; risk of “dummymander” backfiring in 2026 midterms; Democratic retaliation via redistricting in CA, NY, IL, sparking a national arms race; diluted minority representation, per critics. If upheld, it secures GOP House majority.”
Yeah there’s no doubt this will be challenged in court by Democrats. And some blue states have threatened to redraw their own maps if Texas goes through with this. So yeah, it’s gonna be crazy until the midterms.
