A Democrat State Representative in North Carolina has been arrested by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office for raping a teenager.

He was charged by the State Bureau of Investigation with two counts of statutory rape of a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.

The Democrat Party in North Carolina is calling on him to resign his seat immediately.

State Rep. Cecil Brockman, D-Guilford, of High Point has been arrested on charges alleging sexual abuse of a 15-year-old, according to Guilford County Jail records.

Brockman, 41, of Lakecrest Avenue was charged Wednesday by the State Bureau of Investigation with two counts of statutory rape of a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old by a defendant six or more years older than the victim and two counts of indecent liberties with a child. He was being held in the Guilford County Jail in High Point with no bond allowed but was scheduled to have his first appearance hearing Thursday morning.

No details of what he is accused of doing were available. The magistrate’s order listing the charges specifies only that the juvenile involved is 15, and it lists the date of the offense as Aug. 15.

Brockman, the only High Point resident in the 170-member N.C. General Assembly, has represented High Point in the state House for the past 11 years. His 60th House District covers the vast majority of High Point.

The North Carolina Democratic Party issued a statement calling on Brockman to immediately resign.
