In bizarre news tonight, Rep. Matt Gaetz has resigned from the House after he was just named as President-elect Trump’s nominee for the office of Attorney General.

According to Speaker Johnson, he did this to give Governor DeSantis time to fill the seat before Republicans take power again in the new Congress on January 3rd:

I still think it’s weird given that it seems unlikely that Gaetz will get through a Senate confirmation process. There are some speculating that Gaetz is some kind of sacrificial lamb so that Trump can get someone else that he really wants.

But if that were the case I would that think Gaetz would have remained in Congress. Unless he believes Trump will give him another job if he doesn’t get confirmed.
