A massive 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula and now major Tsunami warnings are in effect for Hawaii, Alaska and eastern Russia.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:

•A massive 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.

•The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued tsunami warnings and watches across multiple regions.

•Tsunami waves have already hit parts of Kamchatka, flooding coastal areas including the village of Severo-Kurilsk.

•A wave about 13 feet (4 meters) high was recorded in Kamchatka’s Yelizovsky district.

•Tsunami warnings and watches are in effect for Hawaii, Japan’s Pacific coast, Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, California, Oregon, and Washington.

•Reports from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky show significant structural damage.

•Authorities are urging coastal residents in affected zones to evacuate immediately and move to higher ground.
