Yesterday we told you that Rep. Lauren Boebert had created articles of impeachment against Joe Biden and that Republican were very upset about it, considering it would have forced them to vote on it while their investigations are still ongoing.
Well today Republicans found a way around voting on the privileged impeachment articles. They passed a rule and sent it to committee:
Here’s more via CNN:
The House voted Thursday to pass a rule sending a resolution offered by Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado to committee, effectively pausing a move to bring a privileged motion to the floor that would have forced members to vote on whether to impeach President Joe Biden.
The rule was passed along party lines.
At a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, McCarthy argued that Republicans should let committee investigations play out and warning that jumping to impeachment now could threaten their slim majority, multiple sources in the meeting told CNN.
“I think to prematurely bring something up like that, to have no background in it, it undercuts what we’re doing” at the committee level, McCarthy later told reporters.
I should point out that Boebert herself voted with all Republicans to send it to these committees and not a single Democrat voted for it. Of course, Democrats would have rather seen the privileged vote on the floor in order to use it against Republicans. But now it has essentially been tabled for the time being so they can’t play that card.
