A biological male won first place in women’s cycling two days ago in his age group but wondered why no one else showed up to the podium to receive awards.
Via @i_heart__bikes on Twitter: “The CO2UT gravel race was yesterday. Trans-identified male cyclist Lesley (Wesley) Mumford was???? in the women’s 40-49 age group (out of 14) and 6/33 for women overall on the 100 mile course. Lesley doesn’t know why no one else showed up for the podium!”
Here’s what Wesley wrote on social media:
The 2023 edition of the @desertgravel Co2Ut (Colorado to Utah) race is in the books. This was my first gravel race of 2023. I am beyond pleased with my effort. I placed 6th in the overall standings on the 100-mile course in a stacked field. This was the first race in the Colorado Summer of Gravel Series, so a lot of hitters were here.
My effort also landed me a 1st in age group. Thank you to all of the course marshalls, volunteers, and everyone who makes these events happen.
I can’t say enough about my team, @_rideordiecollective_ So much love to the teammates who pulled for me. The women+ of RDC found a podium in nearly every distance. Such a strong day!
My @ventumracing GS1 ripped through the rowdy course! Coached by @shifthumanperformance.
Lastly, I have no idea why so many people bailed before the podiums, but they did. I swear I wasn’t the only one in my age group.
This is a wild guess, but the women you raced against probably didn’t show up to the podium because they thought it was supremely unfair to have to compete against biological male. And Amen to that! They should always protest this crap.
