Would-be carjackers picked the wrong victim Sunday evening outside a Chicago mall — a concealed carrier who turned the tables by pulling his own gun, returning fire, and wounding one of the suspects.

WBBM-TV reported that the incident took place outside the Ross clothing store at the Ford City Mall on the city's southwest side. The store is located in the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue.

Police said two suspects approached the 24-year-old victim, and one of the suspects pulled a handgun and fired, WLS-TV reported.

However, the victim — whom police said is a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card and concealed carry license holder — returned fire and shot one of the suspects in the thigh, police told WLS.

The two suspects were arrested Sunday night in the 7400 block of South Cicero Avenue and the 2700 block of West 68th Street, police added to WLS.

Police on Tuesday morning said 21-year-old Anton Cheeks and 18-year-old Travell Quadir Deal both have been charged with attempted vehicular carjacking and are due in bond court Tuesday, WLS said.

WBBM identified the victim as a male; there were no reports of other injuries connected to the shootout.
