NextImg:Tucker Carlson reportedly in talks with Trump to moderate a presidential debate

Tucker Carlson is interested in moderating a presidential debate after his exit from Fox News, and he has already talked to former President Donald Trump about the possibility, according to a report.

The Washington Post reported that the debate would be a part of the Republican presidential primary campaign for 2024.

Trump has threatened to skip the first presidential debates scheduled for the summer, the first of which will be hosted by Fox News, Carlson's former employer.

Carlson left Fox News after the cable news network settled a massive lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for reportedly more than $787.5 million. It is unclear if the settlement was directly related to Carlson's departure, and other theories have been floated in the media.

The WaPo report said that Carlson appeared to be willing to break his contract with Fox News, which runs until 2024, and forsake millions in order to pursue other opportunities.

Fox News' ratings have dipped precipitously since Carlson left, especially in his time slot against CNN and MSNBC, its progressive cable news network competitors. In one report, Fox News had lost about half of the average viewers for Carlson's slot.

Carlson issued a video days after leaving Fox News in which he appeared to imply that his viewers could expect him to move on to other venues soon.

"When honest people say what's true, calmly, and without embarrassment, they become powerful," said Carlson on the video. "At the same time the liars who've been trying to silence them shrink, and they become weaker. That's the iron law of the universe. True things prevail."

The two-minute video garnered over 80 million views on Twitter.
