A Florida man was left bloodied and blistered after a woman allegedly poured a pot of boiling water on his face while he slept.

On Friday, Khalid Pittman was at the Sanford, Florida, home owned by his girlfriend, Dymond McCauley. McCauley was packing up her belongings in preparation for a forthcoming move, and Pittman ostensibly came over to help her. At some point, Pittman went into McCauley's bedroom and laid down for a nap.

Not long after, McCauley received a call from her mother, who asked McCauley to check on her sister, 26-year-old Iyonn’a Spates. Spates was at McCauley's home that day as well, and McCauley found her in the kitchen boiling water on the stove. McCauley assumed that Spates was just making food and went back to her business.

Suddenly, moments later, McCauley heard screams coming from the bedroom. When she went in, she reportedly saw Pittman writhing and yelping in pain and Spates standing nearby with an empty cooking pot in her hand.

Spates, who may have a history of mental illness, then allegedly "took a swing" at McCauley, a police report said. The two women tussled, at which time, Spates told McCauley, "He has to go!"

Spates then returned to the kitchen, and McCauley feared that she had more boiling water on hand. So she and Pittman dashed out of the house and called police. Pittman was later treated for severe burns along his neck, and Law&Crime reported that the attack caused blisters to form along his body and "large blood clots" to fall from his nose.

Pittman offered no explanation for the surprise assault. He claimed he and Spates had never had problems before. He just awoke to her "throwing a pot of boiling water on his face," the arrest report said, per WESH 2.

Yet, when questioned by police, Spates supposedly claimed that Pittman's presence made her "uncomfortable" and that she had repeatedly asked him to leave the residence. She was arrested and charged with domestic violence battery and aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and remains in custody on at least $15,000 bond.

Reports indicate that a woman from Sanford, Florida, with the name Iyonn’a Spates is also facing prosecution in connection to an incident that allegedly occurred in June 2022. According to court documents, she was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and resisting an officer with violence.

Current inmate records for the Spates accused in the boiling water attack also reference a previous charge of resisting an officer with violence.
