A middle school teacher in Pennsylvania is facing a number of charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a student. The abuse reportedly started during a class field trip in 2022.

Kelly Ann Schutte, 35, has been charged with felonies and misdemeanors, including three counts of having sexual contact or intercourse with a student at school, three counts of indecent assault of a person under the age of 16, and a single count of corruption of minors, according to WTXF-TV.

Schutte, who was a counselor at Pennridge South Middle School, allagedly began the sexual assault of the victim when he was just 14 years of age. Though the teacher's inappropriate contact with the student began in her own home, the alleged sexual misconduct did not begin until a class field trip in 2022.

After her engagement with the victim on the field trip, she began calling the student to her office during school hours. The two used school applications such as Canvas to keep in touch during the school year. However, the two also used SnapChat when school was out for the summer, according to Fox News Digital.

The report noted that Schutte and the victim apparently had sexual contact in her vehicle outside a supermarket, in Schutte's home, and at the victim's home when his parents were out of the house.

WTXF-TV reported that Pennridge South Middle School said Schutte had been put on administrative leave right after the school had been informed of the alleged misconduct over the summer.

The school stated that "while we refrain from making premature judgments about the actions of the staff member facing prosecution, it is crucial to reiterate the district's stance against any inappropriate contact between a Pennridge School District employee and a student," adding that "such behavior will NOT be tolerated."

The victim's mother reportedly contacted the police after she had reason to believe her son had been kissed and inappropriately touched by Schutte. As a result, an investigation was kicked off.

William Joshua Buchanan, Schutte's attorney, declined to comment on the allegations made against the teacher.

Schutte is not the only teacher who has recently been accused of sexually assaulting students. In July, an award-winning teacher in Arkansas was reportedly caught in bed with a student by her husband.

A former Christian school teacher from Las Vegas was accused of sexually assaulting a female student over the course of four years. Not only did she apparently groom the student, she threatened to kill herself if the student decided to tell someone about the abuse.

A former "Teacher of the Year" from California is facing 150 years in prison after it was discovered that she could have sexually abused two children and been in possession of child sex abuse material.
