NextImg:Jen Psaki issued direct challenge over her viral attempt to defend Democrats on abortion

MSNBC host Jen Psaki was issued a challenge on Wednesday after she claimed that "no one" supports limitless abortion.

Abortion was the most-discussed topic of the GOP presidential primary debate, according to the New York Times, and the candidates clashed over whether they would support a nationwide ban on abortion. That debate aside, the candidates agreed that Democrats go too far on abortion, and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) reiterated his position that Democrats want "to allow abortion all the way up to the moment of birth."

But that's not true, claimed Psaki, the former White House press secretary.

"No one supports abortion up until birth," she posted on X.

The viral claim received a significant response, and importantly, a direct challenge to Psaki: If that is true — that "no one supports abortion up until birth" — then please, tell the world which specific restrictions on abortion you support.

One common objection that defenders of Democrats (like, on Wednesday, Katie Couric) make is that late-term abortions are rare. This is true. But no one is arguing that late-term abortions are common.

Rather, pro-life advocates object to the possibility that elective late-term abortions can happen at all. And this is reality in seven states — Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont — and Washington, D.C., where abortion is legalizedwithout any gestational limit.

Meanwhile, the majority of Democrats in Congress support the Women's Health Protection Act, which would allow abortion beyond fetal viability.

The fact is that most Democrats dodge endorsing abortion restrictions by saying abortion is "a decision between a woman and her doctor." Not supporting restrictions, then, is an endorsement of no restrictions at all.
