NextImg:Trump Revokes Biden’s Security Clearance, Pulls Daily Intelligence Briefings as Payback

President Donald Trump said on Friday he is “immediately revoking” Joe Biden’s security clearance and pulling his access to daily intelligence briefings, exacting payback four years after the former president had done the same to him.

“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Biden revoked Trump’s security clearance weeks after taking office in 2021, arguing the Republican exhibited “erratic behavior” at the time. The move came after the January 6 Capitol riot, which Democrats alleged Trump played a role in stoking.

“I’d rather not speculate out loud,” Biden said in February 2021. “I just think that there is no need for him to have the intelligence briefings. What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?”

Access to such information is normally provided as a courtesy to former presidents, but Trump said Biden set the “precedent” for rescinding security clearance.

The president cited the February 2024 report from special counsel Robert Hur, who offered a critical assessment of Biden’s handling of classified documents in light of his cognitive decline. Biden would present himself as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory” to a jury if he went to trial, the report concluded.

Therefore, Trump said Biden should not retain access to sensitive information.

“I will always protect our National Security — JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he said, using his signature catch phrase from his time on the hit reality television show The Apprentice.

Biden did not immediately respond to the move, according to news reports.

Friday’s announcement marks the latest time that Trump has revoked the security clearances of top officials. Since returning to the White House, he has done the same to 51 former intelligence officials who penned a letter in 2020 discrediting the Hunter Biden laptop probe as a “Russian information operation.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also pulled retired General Mark Milley’s security clearance and personal security detail last week. Milley, who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during Trump’s first term and continuing under the Biden administration, has been one of Trump’s harshest critics.

The month before the 2024 election, journalist Bob Woodward published a book in which Milley called Trump a “total fascist” and the “most dangerous person to this country.”

Trump fired Milley from his role on the National Infrastructure Advisory Council after his inauguration, and the Pentagon removed the retired general’s official portrait after it was first hung in the military establishment ten days earlier. Milley was preemptively pardoned by Biden on Trump’s Inauguration Day.
