President-elect Donald Trump selected Tulsi Gabbard on Wednesday to be the next director of national intelligence.

“For over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans. As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican!” Trump said in a statement.

“I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength,” he added.

The former Hawaii congresswoman unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020 as a Democrat before abandoning the party in 2022. Hillary Clinton famously hinted that Russia was “grooming” Gabbard to run as a third-party candidate during the congresswomen’s campaign in 2019.

“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stoke anti-white racism, actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, are hostile to people of faith & spirituality, demonize the police & protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, weaponize the national security state to go after political opponents, and above all, dragging us ever closer to nuclear war,” Gabbard posted on X in 2022.

The Army National Guard veteran has since made censorship, the deep state, and a non-interventionist foreign policy core issues of her public platform.

The former Democrat endorsed Trump in late August, claiming he “understands the grave responsibility that a president and commander in chief bears for every single one of our lives.”

She also celebrated Trump for “having the courage to meet with adversaries, dictators, allies and partners alike in the pursuit of peace, seeing war as a last resort.”

Gabbard served as an advisor for Trump in the run-up to his only debate with Vice President Kamala Harris in early September. Gabbard had previously competed against the Democratic nominee in the party’s 2020 primary debates.
