After the Alvin Bragg indictment, I asked the “exit question” on The Editors whether Donald Trump would go higher than 60 in the national polling. I thought he would, but I assumed it’d be a temporary thing. He did tick above 60 in a couple of surveys, before falling back into the 50s and even the 40s in some polls. But he’s been on a strong run lately, hitting the 60s routinely. In the latest Fox poll, he was at 69 percent. Given the brazenness of the Colorado disqualification, and how Republican voters react to what they consider unfair attacks on Trump, he seems a lock to go above 70 in the national polling in the final weeks before actual caucusing and voting. The picture in New Hampshire is different, but the national numbers suggest a nearly unassailable position that’s presumably going to get stronger.
