Almost every American college and university is crawling with leftist true believers who want to do everything they can to transform their schools into breeding grounds for young social-justice warriors. That is certainly the case at the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill, and in today’s Martin Center article, Harrington Shaw writes about the moves to maximize leftist influence at the school.
He says:
Once one understands the clandestine insidiousness of DEI terminology, it becomes clear that the action items listed in UNC’s ‘DEI Strategic Plan’ are not so benign. For example, examination of “recruitment and retention’ action items reveals potential plans to discriminate in hiring. In its effort to ‘improve diversity,’ the university will ‘create annual cluster hires, expand existing cluster hires, and adopt hiring strategies to augment diversity among faculty.’ Given the university’s superficial understanding of diversity, this action item likely implies employing overt racial or gender discrimination in hiring to meet administrators’ DEI goals.
Indeed so — all the talk about “diversity” is code for “people who want a collectivist America.” And it’s evident from the emphasis on “diversity” in admissions that the university isn’t going to quietly give up on racial preferences if the Supreme Court rules that they are illegal, a decision that will come soon.
As Shaw notes, UNC spends over $3 million per year on DEI administrators, and those people are on a mission.
