Much is wrong with American higher education, and even insider groups admit it. But what the insiders point to as reform issues and what the Martin Center points to are quite different.
In today’s Martin Center article, Ashlynn Warta examines a recent report by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO).
Some of SHEEO’s concerns are, in my view, not really concerns at all, such as student degree completion. Students who actually benefit from postsecondary-degree programs will usually find ways of getting their value, and the many who aren’t really college ready will realize that and do something else.
On the other hand, SHEEO is evidently unconcerned about the politicization of the curriculum or the decline of academic standards.
