The Catholic Church received Tammy Peterson, Jordan Peterson’s wife, this Easter. EWTN’s Colm Flynn produced a wonderful video series documenting her conversion; Tammy’s conviction and Jordan’s heartfelt embrace of her newfound faith were most striking.
“I loved my wife from the moment I laid eyes on her when I was a kid. And if you love someone, it hurts you when you see them deviate from the thing that draws you to them,” Jordan said. “And, since [Tammy has] pursued her efforts at enlightening herself more fully, and this investigation of Catholicism has been key to that, she’s much more who she is. That’s great because I love who she is — the more of that, the better. It’s the same thing you want to see if you have a child that you love; you want to see them become everything they can be.”
To answer the Lord’s call of conversion, to seek truth, to have strength as an adult to trust the institution of the church, with all its faults and its majesty — well, it’s all thanks to the miracle of faith. Full surrender to truth is not limiting, but, to those of us who believe, can bring you into the fullness of being. Jordan’s words reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:10 which guided my conversion: “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been ineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the grace of God [that is] with me.”
Tammy, welcome home.
