Over the weekend, when Phil Klein raised NR’s fall webathon goal from $75,000 to $100,000 due to the incredible response, my expectation was that it would be reasonable to aim to hit that new mark by the end of this week, when our webathon is set to close.
Well, I underestimated National Review readers.
Already — just over the weekend! — we’ve cruised past that new mark.
Thank you!
Because of the tremendous response so far, we’ve decided to set a new goal for the final week of the webathon: $150,000. I can’t believe I’m writing that.
It’s amazing, and incredibly heartening, to witness such an outpouring of support for NR’s conservative journalism during these very interesting times.
As Charlie Cooke writes today, “Our only loyalty is to our readers — to whom we owe our honesty, industry, and respect, and nothing else besides.” At National Review, we’re not going to mindlessly follow a partisan line, no matter who is pushing it. We’re not going to cheerlead. We are, however, going to tell the truth as we see it, and we are going to facilitate debate that will hone and sharpen conservative ideas. That’s what National Review does, and it’s why National Review exists.
I can’t tell you how much it means that NR’s readers are willing to return that honesty, industry, and respect with their generous support and their loyalty.
Every single dollar that we raise allows us to continue working towards our mission by producing our podcasts, printing the magazine (we go to press on Wednesday with the post-election special issue), maintaining the website, and developing the next generation of young conservative writers.
Can you help us get to our new goal with a generous contribution of any amount? It is no exaggeration at all to say that NR could not and would not exist without the support of our readers and subscribers. To all of you, thank you!
