One theory is that Harris made what otherwise seems the bizarre decision to pass over Josh Shapiro because she was worried about him outshining her. If that’s true, she’s got a Tim Walz problem as well.

Whereas Harris always feels like a cardboard cutout of a politician, Walz tonight seemed like a real person who has a sense of humor and knows how to deliver a line. The content and especially the disgraceful reference to the J. D. Vance couch meme aside, it was quite an adept speech.

I still think he has a lot of liabilities that, if properly exploited, can be turned against Harris (she’s trying to disavow what she ran on in 2019, while that kind of stuff has been the Walz governing agenda). But he’s a performer.
