In a new interview, Donald Trump hits Ron DeSantis for signing the Heartbeat Protection Act, a law that would limit elective abortions in Florida to the first six weeks of pregnancy with exceptions later than six weeks in cases of rape, incest, fatal fetal abnormality, and when the mother’s life or physical health is at risk: 

Trump is wildly wrong: He’d have a very hard time naming a single person in the pro-life movement who thinks protecting a baby with a heartbeat from elective abortion is “too harsh.” Moreover, a super-majority of GOP primary voters backs a six-week limit on abortion. A national poll conducted for the Wall Street Journal in April by the polling firm run by Tony Fabrizio—the pollster for Donald Trump—asked GOP primary voters: “Do you favor or oppose banning all abortions after 6 weeks except in the cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother?” Republican voters overwhelmingly supported such an abortion ban—68 percent to 27 percent.
