Armond White writes that “Rob Reiner lives rent-free in the heads of many conservatives,” referring to his 1987 film The Princess Bride, which he characterizes as “sloppily constructed and so illogical that it must surely be a joke, even though it lacks wit.” White adds that “loving TPB into adulthood shows cultural immaturity.”

I could give a defense of The Princess Bride on its merits, and perhaps I will later. But for now, let the principle suffice that the art ought not to be confused with the artist, and less still with the artist’s outbursts on X.

If more progressives accepted that principle, they could enjoy Harry Potter guilt-free.
