At long last, after a decades-long trail of depravity so multifarious it defies catalogue, we have found the one and only thing that can get a Kennedy denounced by other Kennedys: working for a Republican. That’s the sin that moves Caroline Kennedy to denounce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a “predator.”
It’s not that she’s wrong, but it’s awfully late and convenient in coming. As the Washington Post tells us:
Caroline Kennedy has been hesitant to publicly comment on her cousin’s politics, and she told senators Tuesday that she only reluctantly is speaking up now. “I have never wanted to speak publicly about my family members and their challenges,” she wrote. She did not criticize him during the presidential campaign, but at an event in November at the National Press Club in Canberra, the capital of Australia, she dismissed her cousin’s views on vaccines as “dangerous” and said they did not reflect the opinions of “most Americans” and the rest of the Kennedy family.
And, of course, she uses it as an opportunity to absolve her other depraved relatives for their sins by offloading them on the one guy who went against the family:
Caroline Kennedy goes on to claim in her letter that through “the strength of his personality,” other family members followed Kennedy “down the path of drug addiction.” “His basement, his garage, his dorm room were the centers of the action where drugs were available, and he enjoyed showing off how he put baby chickens and mice in the blender to feed his hawks. It was often a perverse scene of despair and violence.” She commended Kennedy for “pulling himself out of illness and disease” but lamented that “siblings and cousins who Bobby encouraged down the path of substance abuse suffered addiction, illness, and death while Bobby has gone on to misrepresent, lie, and cheat his way through life.”
Gee, Caroline, why did it take you until 2025 to notice this? RFK was arrested for heroin possession in 1983. But now that he is seeking a job across the aisle, all the other Kennedy screwups are his fault. Right.
RFK Jr. is a horrible human being, even for a Kennedy. But he’s not that much worse than the median Kennedy, and the competition for worst Kennedy is a fierce one. The Senate should want no part of him or any other Kennedy in responsible public office. The last person we need to hear from on this is another Kennedy.
