As I recently noted, a startling number of individuals on the terror watch list have poured illegally across our borders in the last two years. Yet it appears that the problem is more troubling than previously reported.

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports that 250,000 foreign nationals entered the U.S. in August alone. At least 169 individuals on the terror watch list were apprehended last month.

It’s estimated that approximately 50 percent of illegal aliens entering the country are “got-aways.” Since individuals on the terror watch list have a unique incentive to avoid encounters with Customs and Border Protection, there’s a fair probability that more than 169 persons on the terror watch list entered the U.S. undetected last month. No worries; they’re probably just sightseeing.

Aside from those on the terror watch list, CBP encountered more than 57,000 illegal/inadmissible Russian nationals, nearly ten times as many as it had encountered in fiscal year 2020. As CIS wryly notes, the U.S. is spending tens of billions of dollars to fight Russians who are invading Ukraine but doing comparatively little or nothing about those Russians illegally entering the U.S.

CBP also reports that in September its agents encountered 4,042 illegal aliens from China.

Apparently, large numbers of illegal aliens from adversary nations shouldn’t concern us. They don’t seem to concern this administration.

Nineteen terrorists killed 2,977 Americans on 9/11. Two decades later, it appears we’ve fallen asleep again.
