NextImg:The Corner: The Candace Owens Problem

Candace Owens’s latest conspiracy theorizing about Charlie Kirk’s murder being somehow linked to the pro-Israel cause has Editors panelists shaking their heads.

“There are three options” that might explain Owens’s actions, Charlie says. “The first option is that Candace Owens is stupid. . . . The second option is that Candace Owens is crazy. . . . The third option is that Candace Owens is evil.

“It doesn’t particularly matter to me which one of those is true other than that it is worse if she has agency,” Charlie says. “What I think is so alarming about this is that she has either fallen for or is peddling the oldest and most pernicious conspiracy theory in the world, which is that the Jews are an evil force that secretly control most, if not all, major events. And she’s sucked the murder of Charlie Kirk into that framework.”

Michael agrees, saying, “There’s something really dark going on. And for some reason, she has this hold on her audience. It seems to continue to grow since she has left the Daily Wire. And I wonder if there’s regrets about bringing her in to kind of maybe neutralize her worst tendencies, but then growing her audience and allowing her to go out and spread this nastiness.

“It’s a problem. There are no gatekeepers.”

“I mean, in the end of it,” Jim says, “I think the most relevant part of this is that . . . Candace Owens is not a good person because she reacted to the Charlie Kirk news [with] ‘This is a great opportunity to promote myself. This is a great opportunity for me to get a bigger audience, for . . . people to believe that I am the only one that they can trust.’ It’s appalling.”
