NextImg:The Corner: ‘The Biden Administration Needs Israel to Win This War’

Kamala Harris gave a speech on Israel in Alabama recently — and on today’s Editors episode, Noah Rothman points out just how badly done it was.

“There was some throat clearing . . . in which she said, ‘Yeah, Hamas . . . shouldn’t be in charge of Gaza after this war.’ Didn’t call on them to surrender . . . but . . . just nods to where the vast majority of American public opinion is today,” he says.

“What she really devoted her passion to,” Noah says, “is for the far-left wing of the Democratic Party’s opinion that the moral reprobate in this conflict is Israel.”

He reminds listeners that this comes right after the Biden administration tried to blame Israel for not helping the Gazan people with humanitarian aid.

“Joe Biden has committed American capital and prestige to Israel winning this war,” he says, and “the Biden administration needs Israel to win this war, and it needs to win it with all due alacrity. The longer it goes, the worse the situation gets for them politically. And yet every action they take seems to undermine that objective.”

Noah says that the administration is “caught in this weird rhetorical trap in which they wanna give credence to the anti-Israeli Left and give them succor, and at the same time, not give them enough succor to demonstrate that they’re on their side. It’s an unwinnable position.

“Midge Decter said, ‘You have to join the side you’re on,’ and this administration seems incapable of doing that.”
