Maryland parents rallied against Montgomery County Public Schools’ Board of Education yesterday after the board announced it would not allow children to opt out of its gender and sexuality curriculum. You can read National Review’s coverage of the rally here.
A point worth noting about the protesters is that they don’t fit the Left’s stereotype of pearl-clutching suburban parents who cry “woke” over progressive classroom politics. The crowd was made up of mostly Muslim and Ethiopian families — there wasn’t a white “Karen” in sight. Toddlers splashed in puddles, kids held homemade signs, and organizers reminded everyone to pick up trash off the ground before the protest ended. It was, all told, a strong showing by the one group who might save public education: faithful parents.
