Two protests opposing restrictions on single-sex facilities occurred at the Cannon House Office Building last Thursday. A spokesperson for the United States Capitol Police told National Review that approximately 15 people were arrested on charges of crowding, obstructing, or incommoding for illegally protesting inside the building.

Activists affiliated with the Gender Liberation Movement staged a “bathroom sit-in” across from Speaker Johnson’s office in response to his statement that House members, officers, and employees are required to use single-sex facilities in accordance with sex. The activists recited some uninspired chants while carrying signs that said “STOP PISSING ON OUR RIGHTS” and “FLUSH BATHROOM BIGOTRY.”

The second protest was more . . . vibrant. Activists held a dance party to the tune of “Meeting in the Ladies Room” in a women’s restroom at the Cannon House Office Building to protest Representative Nancy Mace’s bills that would protect single-sex facilities. Some of the demonstrators (or, I guess, dancers) wore shirts in the colors of the transgender-pride flag with slogans like “Flush the Hate, Not Our Rights” and “Trans People Are NOT Dangerous. You Are!” One of the activists, consultant Taylor Lianne Chandler and self-described “intersex” individual, took a video while using the toilet and declared, “I’m coming in the ladies’ room to shake the dew off my lily!”

Ironically, those two protests reinforced the arguments that conservatives have made for years: “Gender inclusive” policies enable men who want to exert dominance over women. Although progressives insist that “transgender people just need to pee,” the demonstrators did not simply disobey the rules by using the bathrooms discretely for normal purposes; they infiltrated with the intention to maximize the possible discomfort for women. Recording videos a single-sex facility revealed a lack of respect for privacy, and Chandler’s creepy mini documentary in particular was a perverse adaptation of a dog marking its territory. Of course, uploading such content to social media just disproves the common refrain that “trans people just want to be left alone” and confirms that these activists have a crushing narcissistic desire for widespread attention.

So, I suppose we can thank the protesters, as they’ve inadvertently provided a convincing defense of maintaining single-sex facilities.
