Kate Forbes, a Scottish politician who holds traditional Christian beliefs, has been appointed Deputy First Minister of Scotland.

Forbes was appointed by John Swinney, the new First Minister and Scottish National Party leader, after she agreed not to challenge him for the leadership, according to the Telegraph:

Last week, Ms Forbes announced that she would not stand for party leader after receiving assurances from Mr Swinney that there would be a shift away from parts of the Left-wing agenda pursued by the Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf governments.

This shift toward the center is a smart move by Swinney. As I wrote earlier, the time for “continuity” in Scottish politics is over. If political survival is the aim, it’s high time for change.
