Two years ago, during Women’s History Month (as March is so designated), Jill Biden awarded the International Women of Courage Award to a man. The recipient was Alba Rueda, Argentina’s special envoy for sexual orientation and gender identity and a transgender-identifying male. The Biden administration called Rueda an “extraordinary woman” who “worked to end violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ plus community in Argentina.”
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump held a ceremony to honor Women’s History Month that couldn’t have been more different from the past administration’s celebrations. Former President Joe Biden wanted to “abolish the very concept of womanhood,” Trump said as he announced the creation of a Republican Women’s Caucus in Congress.
Trump’s first months in office have been chaotic. Amid scandals like Signalgate, it’s easy (and correct) to criticize the current administration. But two years ago America had a president who didn’t know the definition of a woman. In his first months in office, Trump has defended American women and girls, decisively and with common sense, on the issues of women’s sports and transgender madness. For that he deserves praise.
