The Daily Signal obtained a PowerPoint presentation from a lesson in the Human Structure course at Indiana University School of Medicine. Titled “Sex and Gender Primer,” it’s full of what’s by now become the usual stuff: A “genderbread person” diagram refers to sex “assigned at birth.” A person’s sex is presented as being supposedly “on a spectrum.” Women are referred to as “people with cervices.”
Of course, not everyone has gotten with the program, as evidenced by a professor at the school who told the Daily Signal that the lesson was “anti-scientific” and “anti-biological,” having “very detrimental effects to the health care profession.” The professor added that he knew nothing about the lesson before it was circulated. The trouble is that this professor, like so many others, is willing to voice his criticisms only under the protection of anonymity.
If we have any hope of restoring scientific integrity to sex-related medicine, we need those within the field who are training future doctors to speak up on the record.
