The New York Times and Siena College published a poll of swing-state voters Sunday morning that has tongues wagging about how Trump is not only the presumptive Republican nominee but even the favorite to win the presidency. This top-line reading of the poll as a likely Trump victory is wishful blather. The poll says very little positive about Trump, who won only 48 points of support to Biden’s 44 points despite 67 percent of respondents saying the country is headed in the wrong direction. Rather, what the results suggest is that a three-day-old cow dead from mastitis and full of corpse gas would almost certainly also beat Biden in such a survey because the American president from Delaware is simply that unpopular. With a net job approval of 38 percent and personal approval of 41 percent, Biden has flatlined into Jimmy Carter territory.
This Times poll tells us nothing new about Trump and Biden except that neither man is thought to be the obvious answer to our nation’s challenges. Furthermore, the poll fails to tell us whether there’s an alternative to these two men other than the similarly disliked Kamala. What of Haley, Scott, or DeSantis? Nothing. The report offers very little meat and is sure to produce many tonnes of methane. Unfortunate.
