NextImg:The Corner: Medical Schools Need to Get the Message: No More Racial Discrimination

Alarmingly, America’s medical schools have become hotbeds of racial discrimination. Of course, they don’t call it that. They say that they’re pursuing “social justice” by making themselves “inclusive.” In truth, they’ve embraced the left’s idea of equity by admitting students to fulfill racial quotas and injecting woke concepts into the curriculum. It’s not healthy for patients, but it makes our education leaders feel good.

In today’s Martin Center article, Mike Markham writes that the administration needs to follow through on its non-discrimination orders with action against medical schools that want to continue discrimination under updated language.

Markham points to Duke University as an example:

Duke University Health System, which is linked to the highly respected Duke University School of Medicine, has come under fire after admitting it prioritized DEI in hiring, with stated goals to increase the number of minority employees along with the number of minority-owned companies with whom the system does business. Duke also admitted to abandoning various metrics when selecting surgeons. Duke University’s medical school still audaciously boasts an Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, despite tallying more than $1 billion in federal awards in fiscal year 2023.

The battle against racial discrimination by med schools won’t be won with a single executive order any more than the battle against school discrimination was won by a single Supreme Court decision. Markham is right to observe that the fight has just begun.
