Asked about the chance that Democrats will dump Biden, National Review senior writer Michael Brendan Dougherty said on today’s Editors episode, “It’s zero. He’s going to be the nominee, but minus the actuarial-table event. I think the only thing that removes him is death.”

Dougherty pushed this point, saying, “There is . . . not another fresh body or bag of deceased bones in the Democratic Party labeled ‘FDR coalition.’ And that’s what they need to beat Trump, and he’s the last item. And so they will go with him until the very end.”

National Review editor in chief Rich Lowry pushed back on Dougherty’s point, asking “So there’s no way out? How about odds that . . . Biden just at some point decides ‘I want out’ — or you think that’s impossible?”

Dougherty was adamant, saying, “I think it’s impossible. I think he knows. . . . It’s very difficult to do this when you know your whole staff is going to be fired and replaced.”

“I think nothing short of death removes him from the ticket.”
