NextImg:The Corner: Law Enforcement Official: Eh, We’ll Probably Never Know Whose Cocaine That Was

In a hilarious update to the main story in today’s Morning Jolt, Politico reports that “one official familiar with the investigation cautioned that the source of the drug was unlikely to be determined given that it was discovered in a highly trafficked area of the West Wing.”

The small amount of cocaine was found in a cubby area for storing electronics within the West Exec basement entryway into the West Wing, where many people have authorized access, including staff or visitors coming in for West Wing tours.

“Even if there were surveillance cameras, unless you were waving it around, it may not have been caught” by the cameras, added the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity given that it’s an ongoing investigation. “It’s a bit of a thoroughfare. People walk by there all the time.”

Ah, well. I guess there’s just no way of knowing who brought that cocaine into the White House, then. There’s no way anyone could possibly know who put what in which cubby, whether there were other personal objects with the cocaine, or what container the cocaine was in. It’s the White House, only one of the most secure and monitored sites in the entire country, and there’s just no way for the Secret Service or other law enforcement agencies to figure out who brought it in. I mean, with all those White House tours on a holiday weekend, it must be busier than Grand Central Station!

I mean, it’s not like there’s a person who described himself as smoking crack every fifteen minutes in the not-so-distant past, who spends a lot of time at the White House.

As one of my readers joked, it was probably the Dobbs leaker.
